This past Saturday a former member of the Region 8 news family died. While not a familiar name or face to many, former news director Harvey Cox was a dominant force in our newsroom.
From 1995 to 2002, Harvey led our reporters, photographers, and producers as they covered some of the most challenging events they had ever, and will ever, cover.
Harvey Cox was at the helm of our newsroom on March 24, 1998, when two Westside Middle School students ambushed their fellow classmates and teachers. Harvey worked tirelessly behind the scenes as we reported on good times and bad, through tragedy and storms.
A story our staff still tells today, is one where he was so dedicated to providing Region 8 with the latest news he even slept with police scanners on beside his bed.
While you may not know Harvey Cox, every day you can see his legacy right here at KAIT. He is credited with adding the 5 p.m. newscast and expanding our early morning programming. He was also on the frontlines of bringing a quality website, kait8.com, to Region 8.
In short, he was a leader to many here at KAIT. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife of 44 years, and his six children. Harvey worked to make this A Better Region 8 and for that we thank him.
