JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Three Westside High School students got an unexpected trip to the sheriff's office after deputies say one of them brought a shotgun to school.
Assistant Principal Freddy Bowen reported the incident around 7:30 Tuesday morning.
According to the initial incident report, Bowen was investigating a smoking complaint in the student parking lot when he found the three students standing beside a vehicle. In the back floorboard of the vehicle, Bowen said he discovered a shotgun.
The 18-year-old vehicle owner told Deputy David Vaughn he had forgotten the gun was in the vehicle and "did not intend to bring the weapon on school property."
The parents of all three students were called to the school and were present when the deputy and school administrators interviewed the teens.
After speaking with the students at the school, and after contacting the Craighead County Juvenile Office and an investigator, the deputy took the students to the sheriff's office for further interviews.
No formal charges have been filed as of this writing.
