JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Hepatitis C is now the leading cause or factor in more deaths than HIV in Arkansas, according to new research by Arkansas Department of Health.
In a news release, the ADH suggests Hep C related deaths happened almost two times more than HIV related deaths.
The research also showed hospitalizations nearly doubled in the last 8 years with 2,837 in 2004 and 4,141 in 2012.
Hep C is a virus that spreads when blood from a person infected with the virus enters someone who is not infected.
ADH encourages anyone born between 1945 and 1965 to get tested at least once at one of the 94 county health units across the state.
