WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - The Walnut Ridge Fire Department wants to cut on energy costs to save money.
The fire house has already done a few things like add a wood burning furnace to heat the building in the cooler months.
However, now Walnut Ridge Mayor Charles Snapp said he would like to cut down on energy costs at the two firehouses in town.
Snapp said they will be presenting a new plan to the city council this month, which includes getting a new type of lighting system for the buildings.
The proposal would allow for a local business called Moonshinexxx Lights to come in and replace the old lighting system with LED lights.
Mayor Snapp said this would save the city a large amount of money.
"They're projecting a 33% return on our investment," Snapp said. "We'll be saving about 3,200, 3,300 a year off of our electric bill."
He said the city would receive help paying for the new lighting and installation with a grant from Clear Solutions and it would include both firehouses in town.
