Jonesboro woman cited after dog bites neighbor

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro woman was cited Thursday after her dog bit one of her neighbors.

An officer was dispatched to the St. Bernards Emergency Room, where a victim said her neighbor's dog had gotten loose, so she attempted to put it in the backyard.

She said the dog came running at her with its mouth open and bit her on the left arm that she was using to shield herself.

She then started to run away from the dog and it bit her on the right buttocks.

The dog ran off and the woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

According to the police report, the victim described the dog as a brindle mastiff.

When the officer went to talk to the pet owner, Melissa Kidd, 30, of Jonesboro, she said she wasn't home when the incident happened.

She told the officer that her husband must have left the dog in the fenced-in backyard, but said the dog can get loose.

The officer noticed that the rabies certificate for the dog was expired.

Kidd was cited for no state rabies and dog at large.

She was also issued an order for the dog to be quarantined at a veterinarian's office for 10 days.

Kidd is scheduled to appear in court May 20.
