26 pounds of pot discovered in FedEx shipment

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

FedEx might not be the best way to ship $31,000 worth of marijuana.

But, Jonesboro police say that's exactly what someone did.

On Monday a manager at FedEx, 3400 Moore Rd., reported they were unable to deliver two boxes dues to the homeowner not knowing who the boxes were for, according to the initial incident report.

When an employee, Charles Ferguson, attempted to open one of the boxes he found marijuana.

An agent with the Second Judicial Drug Task Force picked up the boxes and saw that they contained marijuana.

One of the boxes reportedly held 19 pounds of pot and the other contained 7, the report stated.

The drugs were logged into evidence at the Jonesboro Police Department.

Later that night, Ferguson contacted the investigating officer again and said that he had stolen one of the packages of marijuana out of one of the boxes.

He met with police and turned over the vacuum sealed package, which contained approximately one pound of marijuana.

Tuesday, Ferguson had a probable cause hearing on the charge of possession of a schedule 6 substance more than 4 ounces but less than 10 pounds.

He was released on his own recognizance.

At this time there are no named suspects for who sent the packages.
