PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Valley View entered Tuesday's season finale at Greene County Tech with everything to lose. Holding the first place spot, all the Blazers had to do was beat the Eagles once to claim the 5A East Championship.
Things got off to a good start for the Eagles as a five pitch inning from Logan Cato brought the Eagles to the plate in a scoreless game. Andrew Tarry hit a rope to left field that brought in the first run of the game, breaking the seal for a 1-0 lead for Greene County Tech.
GCT would tack on two more before the game was complete and would shut down a Valley View bases loaded threat in the top of the seventh to take game 1 by the final score of 3-1.
With Tech's opening game victory, this meant that the two teams had a winner-take-all matchup in the final game, whoever won would be the conference champ.
The second game was tight throughout but looked to swing towards Valley View when the Blazers took a 6-2 lead midway through the game. Greene County Tech would rally back to take the lead but a Valley View homer would re-knot the game at eight all.
GCT would come to bat with the game tied at eight to begin the bottom of the final frame. Luke Reddick hit a walk-off single that plated the winning run and gave the Eagles the 2015 5A East Conference Championship with a 9-8 win in the second game of the doubleheader.
The championship gives Greene County Tech the one seed in the upcoming 5A State Tournament that is scheduled to begin on Thursday.
