SEARCY, AR (KAIT) - Police in Searcy responded to a shooting early Wednesday morning involving a homeowner and someone trying to break in.
Sgt. Steve Hernandez with Searcy police states officers were called to a home on North Van Street for a report of shots fired around 12:30 a.m.
When police arrived on scene they were told by the homeowner that he fired a weapon four times at two men who were attempting to break into his house.
Hernandez said it was later determined that one of the men, James D. Hughes, 19, of Jusdonia was attempting to break in the home when he was shot in the hand and chest.
Hughes was taken to a Searcy hospital by the other man involved, his father James A. Hughes, 44, of Searcy, according to Hernandez.
Police said the 19-year-old Hughes is currently in critical condition, but the injuries are said to be non-life threatening.
James A. Hughes was arrested and charged with attempted aggravated residential burglary. His bond was set at $75,000.
Jennifer Curington, 31, of Searcy was also arrested in the incident.
She is also charged with attempted aggravated residential burglary and her bond was also set at $75,000.
No charges were listed for James D. Hughes at the time of this writing, but they may be announced later.
