Thursday will be a busy day around the state of Arkansas as high school state tournaments for baseball, softball, and soccer get cranked up with opening round play.
In baseball, Region 8 fields some promising teams including a hard-hitting Jonesboro team seeded first out of the east in the 6A Tournament. Some other teams to watch are Greene County Tech and Valley View in the 5A, Brookland in the 4A, Rivercrest in the 3A, Riverside and Walnut Ridge in the 2A, and Armorel in the 1A.
Of course this time of year, it's hard to predict what will happen as there are many strong teams around the state. For a look at the baseball brackets, click here.
In the softball side of things, Paragould has gone undefeated in conference play and is certainly a team to beat in the 5A State Tournament. Also of interest is a solid Brookland team in the 4A, while Midland, Marmaduke, and BIC could all make dents in the 2A bracket. Viola had a strong showing in its regional in the 1A bracket but Armorel has been potent this season also.

The soccer bracket will open up on Thursday as well. The nearest host site to Region 8 is in Searcy and Jonesboro will be competing in the both the boys and girls sides of that 6A bracket. The 5A is strong in soccer but Valley View is always a threat in both girls and boys soccer. In the 4A, Crowley's Ridge is the 1 seed coming out of region 3.
Soccer classifications only run from 7A-4A. Schools lower than 4A are grouped into the 4A Class. Here are the brackets for each classification with Region 8 representation:
