A-State's has tourney hopes entering final series

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Arkansas State and UALR rivalry is good regardless of sport, record, or implications the games may have riding on them, but as the Red Wolves and Trojans prepare for the final series of the baseball season, things couldn't be more important for A-State.

With the Red Wolves currently placed tenth in the conference and needing to move up to the eighth spot to earn a trip to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, step number one is to win games versus UALR.

Arkansas State has to win at least two out of the three games against the Trojans in order to keep their tournament hopes alive. If A-State drops two of three, then their season is over. Here are the scenarios for the Red Wolves getting into the tournament:

If Arkansas State wins 2 of 3 games they would need UT-Arlington to sweep Texas State or Louisiana-Lafayette to sweep Louisiana-Monroe.

Should the Red Wolves sweep the Trojans then they would be needing a Texas State sweep of UT-Arlington or UT-Arlington taking at least 2 of 3 games from Texas State or Louisiana-Lafayette to take at least 2 of 3 from Louisiana-Monroe.

Region 8 Sports will have coverage of this entire series and will keep you updated on the Red Wolves fight to get into the postseason. First pitch for Thursday's game one at Tomlinson Stadium is set for 6:30 pm.
