BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - The Blytheville Fire Department said crews worked Sunday night to put off a fire on Elm Street.
The department said the fire at the Federal Compress began shortly before 9 p.m.
At one point, it was spreading to other buildings, but the crews were able to contain it to one building.
The Federal Compress is a warehouse where they store cotton.
The department said there were no injuries.
Blytheville Fire Marshall Randal Woolsey said the cause of the fire is still unknown, as of Monday, and an investigation will not begin until his crew can get underneath the collapsed roof.
"The fire is actually underneath the roof," Woolsey said. "This roof is many years of asphalt, tar paper, over 50 years of that and we tried to cut holes in this and it's just going to have to burn itself through so we can get to it."
Woolsey estimated the department may be able to get underneath the roof sometime Tuesday.
