BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - A Blytheville teenager was arrested and charged with 1st degree murder in the death of 17-year old Dewaun Miller, according to Police Chief Ross Thompson.
Thompson said Javander Williams, 18, of Blytheville shot Miller in the 1000 block of Clark Street Monday night. Williams' bond was set at $100,000 Thursday.
According to police, Miller was shot Monday night and died at Great River Medical Center. Miller's death sparked outrage within the community. A prayer vigil was held Tuesday afternoon after the shooting.
Thompson said Williams surrendered to police Wednesday night.
Barbara Wells, who lives off of Clark Street, told Region 8 News that she saw everything happen from her door.
She said Miller was walking past her door when a car pulled up and a person fired a shot. The teen then took off to a white house down the street, where he sought assistance.
"Knocked on the door, they opened the door and when they opened the door he fell in there and he was just bleeding and you could see blood in the street,"Wells said. "And they had shot him, someone shot him the chest."
At 6 Tuesday night, people from the community rallied together a few streets down to pray for the city of Blytheville after the murder.
Pastors and community members said the violence needs to stop and change was coming for their city.
