JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

For some it's the end of an era.

Small rural towns all across Region 8 are slowly fading from the landscape.

Fifty or 60 years ago towns like Pollard and Grubbs were bustling hives of activity; boasting banks, merchants, doctors, pool halls, even hotels.

But those days are gone.

Some blame the advent of paved roads and highways. Others blame the loss of community schools.

Whatever the reason, buildings and memories remain.

As part of our special report, “The Rise and Fall of Rural Arkansas,” we have created this photo gallery.

While there is a smattering of abandoned buildings, we have also included photographs of rural towns that are still thriving.

Region 8 is a large area and we want to see your hometown. Send photos, along with your memories, of your hometown to YourRegion8@kait8.com and we'll add it to our gallery. Be sure to include your name and location.
