Butterfly release held to honor Holocaust victims

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A group of Region 8 students paid tribute to those who were killed more than 70 years ago.

A butterfly release was held Tuesday afternoon at Annie Camp Junior High in Jonesboro.

Students in the 7th grade English classes recently finished reading "The Diary of Anne Frank."

They released the butterflies in honor of the Holocaust victims

"They know the butterfly symbolizes hope and we encourage them to realize they can have hope in their life in the darkest of times and that they too can make a change in others," teacher Cassandra Sabbatini said.

300 students released butterflies.

The event was made possible through a grant from the Foundation of JPS.
