Habitat for Humanity of Paragould celebrates land donation

The Habitat for Humanity of Paragould along with the Greene County Baptist Association threw a block party Tuesday evening in celebration of a big accomplishment.

The party was held at Westview Baptist Church, 1.5 acres of land donated by William and Lois Prestidge.

This is enough land for the Habitat for Humanity to build 10 houses over the next 5 years.

Board President of Habitat for Humanity of Paragould Terry Austin said they are excited to build in an established neighborhood.

“The neighborhood is going to provide a safe environment for kids that are going to be in these homes," Austin said. "Those kids are going to get to see their lives change from being in homes that are probably sub-standard, maybe even unsafe. They are going to be able to live in a decent, affordable home in this neighborhood.”

Austin said he hopes the organization will help the people be proud of what they have and use this as a stepping stone to greater things.

The Greene County Baptist Association will have 90 people working on the property on Oct. 1, and they hope to get a house up in 1 weekend.
