Bay teacher retires after more than 40 years

BAY, AR (KAIT) -

After more than 40 years of molding young minds, a teacher said “Goodbye.”

Bay Elementary kindergarten teacher Margaret Gunter is retiring.

A surprise party with fellow coworkers, family, friends and former students took place in the school's library on Thursday.

Teacher Claudia Lamberson remembers meeting Mrs. Gunter when she first started many years ago.

“I thought she was a fabulous teacher. She brought so many wonderful ideas,” Lamberson said. “She inspired me even to be a better teacher and I just love her like a sister.”

Mrs. Gunter said after her many years of experience, there is 1 thing she has learned that rings true for every child in every group she has ever taught.

“If you make them feel safe and you make them feel loved you will be able to teach them,” Gunter said. “You don't have to drill them to teach them. You can do it in a fun way and they will learn.”

Mrs. Gunter said she looks forward to traveling and getting to spend more time with her family and new grandson.
