JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

This will be a Memorial Day weekend a Jonesboro man will not likely forget.

On Friday, Ronnie Kirby collected $1 million from the Missouri Lottery.

Kirby bought the winning “$1 Million Classic Cash” scratchers ticket on April 30 at Mr. T's, 510 U.S. Highway 412 in Cardwell.

“I had bought three in a row,“ Kirby said of that day. “I was down to my next-to-the-last number when the four came up. That was the lucky number.”

It's also his lucky game.

He's won $1,000 twice this year and $10,000 once before on this same game, according to a news release from the Missouri Lottery.

When he realized he had won, Kirby told his partner who was with him

“He jerked the ticket out of my hand and looked at it, then slid it back over to me,” Kirby said. “Then he jerked it out of my hand again. I couldn't write my name because my fingers were kind of numb.”

Next Kirby called his girlfriend, Linda Kellems.

“I told him, ‘Don't stroke out,'” Kellems recalled.

Kirby is semi-retired, but still drives for the U.S. Postal Service.

He plans to use the winnings to pay off his house, get a new truck and “some toys to go with it.”

Even though he's won a big prize, it's likely Kirby will return to Mr. T's to play his favorite scratchers game.

“I just enjoy playing,” he said. “I'd like to win on one of those taxes-paid tickets.”
