Jonesboro police officer will not be charged in April shooting

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Jonesboro police officer who shot the machete-wielding man in April will not be charge, according to the prosecuting attorney.

In a letter to Arkansas State Police, Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington said that after two days of grand jury testimony from witnesses they found that there was not enough evidence to charge Patrolman First Class Heath Loggains.

Police Chief Rick Elliot released this statement on the findings:

The Jonesboro Police Department asked the Arkansas State Police to investigate the officer-involved that occurred April 14. The department cooperated fully with that investigation and allowed the judicial process to work when the matter was put before the grand jury. We are satisfied with the outcome of that process.

According to police, Loggains shot Christopher Grant Finley after he struck the officer on the arm with a machete.
