Police warning drivers to be cautious of motorcycles

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro Police Officers are asking drivers to use extra caution on the roadways.

With summer officially here, more motorcycles are coming out of storage.

Sgt. George Martin with JPD said there are a number of things you can do to help make sure an accident doesn't happen.

"The motorcycles are a lot smaller, so they're a lot more deceiving looking," Sgt. Martin said. "You think they're going a certain speed just because of the smaller one which are actually traveling faster. And always look twice when you see a motorcyclist."

Sgt. Martin also recommended that you also give the motorcycle the full width of the lane they're in, signal in plenty of time and, if following a motorcycle, keep extra distance between the two of you.

This way there's plenty of time if an emergency maneuver is needed.
