Pet owners urged to take advantage of low cost shots in wake of rabies cases

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Five animals have tested positive for rabies in counties surrounding Craighead County, according to the Arkansas Health Department.

In an effort to protect Region 8's pet population, NAFA, or Northeast Arkansans for Animals, and the Jonesboro Animal Control plans to offer a low cost vaccination clinic on Saturday, June 6th from 8 to 11 a.m. at Jonesboro Animal Control, 6119 E. Highland Drive.

All vaccinations are $10 each.  A brief exam and intestinal deworming will be provided at no charge. A heartworm test is also available for $15. There are no qualifications for the rabies vaccinations, which include certificate and tag.

As for animals testing positive for rabies, AHD reports one in Greene County,  two in Randolph County and two in Lawrence County.
