Jonesboro Fire Department does more than fight fires

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro Fire Department received praise this week for more than putting out fires.

A Jonesboro woman posted on the fire department's Facebook page thanking them for going above their job description.

Two firefighters at Station One on Johnson Avenue assisted a 73-year-old man changing his granddaughter's tire.

The firefighters saw the man changing the tire at Taylor Wagner Family Dentistry next door and offered a helping hand.

Firefighter Kyle Kelly says his fellow firefighters were just helping their community.

"It wasn't anything that we're specialized in or anything like that, we do it simply because community services is our job and we wouldn't mind giving a helping hand," Kelly said.

Kelly says providing service like this are is rare for the Jonesboro Fire Department.

"It happens a few times a week and we would be more than happy to do those type of chores for anybody," Kelly said.

The fire department chief says any of his men would help a community member with anything from fires to tire changes.
