Region 8 man receives award for saving a woman's life

GREENE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

A Region 8 man was recognized by local law enforcement for his bravery.

On July 17, Chad Speer and his wife were driving down Highway 139 in Paragould when they spotted a car upside down in a ditch.

Speer went down to the vehicle and discovered a woman upside down in the car, trapped in her seat belt and struggling to keep her head above water.

He cut the woman out of her seat belt while his wife called emergency responders to the scene.

He was given the Greene County Sheriff Heroes Award.

"The police officers and fire department and paramedics, troops, those are the real heroes to me," Speer said. "They save thousands of lives. I helped one lady that was in need and I was glad to do it."

Greene County Sheriff David Carter said they plan to continue the award.
