Paragould police still working to positively ID murder victim

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) -

Paragould police continue to investigate a homicide that happened at a home last week in the middle of the day.

The deadly shooting happened at a house on the corner of West Morgan and North 5th streets on July 23.

Police tell Region 8 News that while they have a good idea of who the victim is, they've been unable to make a positive ID for a number of reasons.

"We didn't find any identification on the body at the time," Lt. Scott Snyder told Region 8 News. "We have a fairly certain ID of who the victim is but until we have that confirmed through the crime lab, through the medical examiner's office and it's returned to us and the coroner's office, we're not comfortable with a speculative ID."

Lt. Snyder said some statements they've received have not been credible either. However, they have been following up on every lead since the shooting last Thursday.

"We've been conducting interviews nonstop. Literally, night and day since Thursday evening, Thursday afternoon," Lt. Snyder said.

Lt. Snyder said for the Paragould Police Department, this is an atypical homicide investigation.

"A number of parties had been present at that residence that day, there are a number of potential motives, there's some theories. We're looking into all of those and exploring all of those," Lt. Snyder said. "We've got physical evidence that's pending with the state crime lab, that we hope will reveal a little more to us once we get that back."

Snyder said as far as finding out who committed the crime, they have some polygraph interviews set up with a few different parties.

Lt. Snyder said once the crime lab releases a positive identification on the murder victim to Greene County Coroner Dick Pace, he will release the name to Paragould police.
