Man arrested after deputies find meth in hotel room

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A man on active probation was arrested at Park Place Inn in Jonesboro Tuesday night.

According to a Craighead County Sheriff's Department incident report, Shawn Oswald, 40, of Jonesboro was walking on South Caraway Road when he was approached by Deputy Bobby Swan and Deputy Matt Kirby.

When asked for an ID, Oswald invited the deputies to his room at Park Place Inn to get it.

While he was getting the ID, Deputy Kirby saw the suspect drop something behind his nightstand.

After running Oswald through dispatch, the deputies confirmed that he had an active warrant through the city of Jonesboro.

Oswald allowed officers to search his room.

That’s when the deputies noticed the object he dropped behind the nightstand was a wadded up coffee filter with a white, powdery substance.

The deputies field tested the white substance, which tested positive to be methamphetamine.

Oswald was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of three grams of meth.

He is awaiting a probable cause hearing.
