Murder suspect family speaks out

CROSS COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Family members of Cross County murder suspect speak out.

The aunt and uncle of Mike Davis spoke with Region 8 News about the murder of his wife, Mary Davis.  Jim and Ann Sanders said the incident came as a shock to them.

"It was shocked that she is so young, so seemed happy and just her youthfulness, this just didn't have to happen, she didn't need to die, this could have been prevented," Ann Sanders said.

Wednesday the body of Mary Davis was found in Poinsett County.

Thursday Cross County deputies charged the husband, Mike Davis, and another man, Jerry Wayne Jarvis, with second degree murder in the case.

The Sanders related the last time they visited Mary and Mike seemed like a happy couple.  "We always come in for Christmas and visit with them and their kids and we thought things were going well for them," Jim Sanders said.

The family members were in Arkansas visiting when they received the news of the incident.

Ann Sanders said the couple was using meth, and she worries this may have lead to the tragedy.  "I feel very firmly that this is a result of their involvement in methamphetamine," Ann Sanders said. "I didn't see this happening, some years ago I would not have imagined this."

The two men are being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.  Sheriff J.R. Smith said the two men will appear in court on August 24th.

No more details regarding the crime have been released from authorities at this time.
