Family illustrates need for Stuff the Bus

A Region 8 family is making plans to give back what was given to them last year. Eric and Christy Sullivan faced difficult straits at the start of the 2014-2015 school year. Eric was out of work and Christy was the sole supporter of the family.

“It was difficult trying to provide for food on the table and pay bills,” said Christy Sullivan. Their daughters, Erika and Jade, are Brookland students. School counselors made sure the pair had supplies to start school.

“It helped a lot, and that’s why its so important for the community," said Christy. "Knowing that its helping local children, local schools. You see them out there at Walmart. Go by and give them what you can.  Even if its just a pack of crayons. Every little bit helps the students.”

The tenth annual Stuff the Bus happens on Saturday, August 1. The date coincides with Arkansas’ tax-free weekend. Stuff the Bus encompasses 23 schools in 8 counties. It’s sponsored by United Way of Northeast Arkansas, CRDC, the Jonesboro Radio Group and KAIT.
