A plaque to honor Rickey Cooksey and Danny Johns was mounted at Cooksey-Johns Field today.
The two former football players passed way after a car accident late in 1969 on their way to the Sugar Bowl.
Both players were linebackers and two key players for Jonesboro.
Cooksey-Johns Field was built in 1971 and named in honor of them.
Their classmates that were part of the 1970 class found out about a plaque at Jonesboro High School that was buried in storage.
They contacted the school and spent some money to have it mounted to honor the two men.
"We have many classmates that have passed away but this happened during our class and everybody still remembers them and how close everybody has become," Brenda Knight, a Jonesboro Class of 1970 member said.
"It was a tragic event for Jonesboro at the time. And lots of lots of folks for years before and years after knew them and to know that the people now kids coming up don't have an idea from that long, you know 45 years ago. But now they're going to be remembered through this memorial everyone that comes through here will see it," Phil Brown, a Jonesboro Class of 1970 member said.
