Suspected shoplifter punches employee, caught during traffic stop

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 man is out of jail after police arrested him for shoplifting and punching a store clerk in the face.

According to a probable cause affidavit, an employee at the Wal-Mart Supercenter on West Parker Road in Jonesboro caught 19-year-old Deangelo Obrian Selvy of Jonesboro attempting to take an SD memory card without paying for it.

Police stated he was caught on surveillance video turning around and "punching the Wal-Mart employee in the face, knocking her to the ground."

Selvy then ran out of the store.

According to police, Selvy was caught during a traffic stop.

He reportedly admitted to the crime.

"It was me, I'm the one you're looking for," Selvy allegedly told officers, according to court documents.

Selvy is charged with robbery.

If convicted, he could face 5 to 20 years in prison and/or face a $15,000 fine.

The sheriff's office reports Selvy was released from the Craighead County Detention Center on Monday.
