New details released in man's arrest for sexually assaulting child

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Region 8 man is behind bars in Craighead County for allegedly inappropriately touching a young girl.

Deputies in Stone County issued a warrant for the arrest of 32-year-old Fernando Rivera of Bay and alerted the Second Judicial Drug Task Force that Rivera might be in the Jonesboro area.

DTF was tipped off that Rivera was in Jonesboro on Monday and was arrested that afternoon.

Police tell Region 8 News they also found drugs and drug paraphernalia on Rivera.

He's awaiting extradition back to Stone County where he will face charges for sexual indecency.

The investigation into those charges began in late May.

According to a news release posted on Friday, Stone County authorities believe Rivera inappropriately touched an 11-year-old girl while he was at the child's home.

Once Rivera's charges in Craighead County are dealt with, he will be transported to Stone County where he will stand trial for the sexual indecency charge.
