JPD Hopes For A Large Test Turnout

February 18, 2005 -- Posted at 10:15 p.m. CST

JONESBORO -- "This is a great opportunity to become involved in the law enforcement community. We feel like we have one of the best departments in the state,"said Police Sergeant Steve McDaniel.

The time is now to apply for a position on the Jonesboro Police Department.

Each year, the JPD puts together a list of eligible people.

Throughout the year, officers are hired from that list.

"This year we are looking for as many people as possible to come out and test with us, so that we can have the biggest list possible," said McDaniel.

So what does it take to get on that list?

You must be 21 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and not be convicted of a felony.

Potential recruits must also pass a written and physical exam.

"A 300 meter run, a mile and a half run, some push ups, and sit ups, what we call a trigger pull. There is also a sit and reach which measures flexibility," said McDaniel.

McDaniel says they are looking far and wide to find a few good men, and women to become a part of the department.

"We would love to have people with some bilingual skills, especially Spanish. We are looking to the minority community to fill out applications. We welcome anyone who is available to come and test with us," said McDaniel.
