Pocahontas set the bar high last year finishing 10-2 and winning a share of the 3-4A Conference Title.
This time around two key Redskins return. Junior running back Barkley Sorg is back in the backfield and junior quarterback Reece Coates returns as the starting quarterback.
But Pocahontas will have a brand new offensive line in 2015. ""Well you know it all really just depends on our offensive line. I mean as long as they're working and they're doing what they're supposed to do we can do pretty much anything," Sorg said.
On the defensive side Pocahontas had a very strong season in 2014 and the team still emphasizes that defense is the key for the Redskins. "Really expect our defense will play really good this year. I know we had a good time last year and that's what won a lot of our games was being able to stop the other team," senior safety Josiah Marlow said.
Charles Baty returns in his second season as head coach and says the team will continue to place its best athletes on defense. Pocahontas has emphasized bulking up and have hit the weight room a lot this summer. "We've had great participation this summer. Probably had one of the best off-seasons I've ever been a part of. Been very intense. Expectations are extremely high," Baty said.
Pocahontas is also in the process of adding new bleachers and a press box to its stadium. The Redskins hope to have both ready by the season opener on September 4th against Riverview.
