JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Construction on a highly traveled road in Jonesboro may cause congestion and slowed traffic for the next month.
The E-911 Director for the City of Jonesboro Jeff Presley warned drivers on Friday to slow down on Caraway Road because the traffic pattern has changed.
A construction crew is in the process of replacing the bridge over Higgenbottom Creek on South Caraway Road.
The crew is also working to widen part of the road and add lanes, causing traffic to take a slightly different course.
Christine Debow works at Dr. Roe's Chiropractic Office on Caraway, just feet away from the construction.
Debow said the business moved there in April and while the traffic has helped business, she said it feels like it takes a long time to turn left.
"It's kind of congested," Debow said. "It takes sometimes 3 to 5 minutes up to 10 minutes to get out of the driveway with the construction."
Debow said she hopes the construction is complete soon.
"Traffic is going all the time," Debow said. "There is probably, I don't know, I couldn't even put an estimate on the numbers of cars, nonstop."
Construction workers in the area said it can sometimes be scary how fast some cars drive through the construction zone.
According to the Jonesboro city engineer, the bridge project should be complete by early or mid-September.
