Schools in need of part-time bus drivers

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - As students prepare for the new school year, school districts are assessing the needs for the upcoming year.

For several school districts, there's a shortage of bus drivers.

The Greene County Tech School District is in need of substitute bus drivers.

Those drivers work extra school events, extra routes or fill-in when a full-time driver is out sick or on vacation.

Superintendent Gene Weeks said they have drivers for all the main bus routes, but subs are needed.

He said starting out as a fill-in driver could lead to something more.

Usually most schools hire from their sub drivers, Superintendent Weeks said. You get them in and they sub for you and as the route positions come open then you replace them with your subs.

Drivers must have a commercial drivers license and transportation certificate showing they can drive a vehicle with passengers.

To apply, you must contact the transportation department at the school.
