BATESVILLE, AR (LYON) – The Lyon College women’s soccer team, which opened its training camp on Thursday, begins the 2015 season with a pair exhibition contests on Thursday, Aug. 13, at J. Marshall Huser Field.
The first match is slated for 3 p.m. against Northwest Mississippi Community College, while the second match is set for 5 p.m. against Arkansas Rush U-18’s. NWMCC will tangle with the Rush at 4 p.m.
Lyon comes off a 2014 season in which it finished 8-8-1 overall and 6-4-1 in American Midwest Conference play. The Scots fell 3-0 to Park (Mo.) in the AMC Postseason Tournament quarterfinals.
The squad returns 14 players from a year ago. Anna Waldman heads the returnees after being named an NAIA All-America Honorable Mention and scoring a team-high 21 goals last season. Jessica Souza was second on the team with nine goals, while Monica Ayala tallied seven.
The Scots welcome Regan Kowalski and Joyce De Freitas Barbosa to the 2015 team. Kowalski comes from Seminal High School in Orlando, Florida, while Barbosa transfers from Martin Methodist (Tenn.).
Lyon, under first-year head coach Chris Bocanegra, begins regular season play Aug. 22 at Martin Methodist then returns home on Aug. 25 for a matchup against Evangel (Mo.).
