IZARD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

A Region 8 man faces rape charges after sheriff’s investigators say he broke into a woman’s home and assaulted her.

The alleged assault occurred early one morning in July, according to Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence.

Jerried Lee Hardin, 33, of Franklin reportedly entered the woman’s home around 3 a.m., while she was sleeping, and forcibly raped her.

Lawrence said Hardin is also a “person of extreme interest” in a suspected arson that destroyed the victim’s previous home a few months ago.

On Aug. 2 deputies arrested Hardin on a harassment warrant related to an incident in which he reportedly chased the victim in a vehicle at excessive speeds.

In addition to the rape charge, Hardin is charged with violating an order of protection.

He is being held at the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bond. His first court appearance is set for Aug. 26.
