JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro E911 has upgraded to their Smart911 chat service to help those who can't talk on the phone during an emergency.
That Jonesboro E911 Dispatch Center and Rave Mobile Safety, a software safety solutions provider, announced Tuesday the launch of Smart911 SMS in the Jonesboro and Craighead County communities.
Smart911 allows residents to enter information online that they want to be delivered automatically to the 911 operator when they call in an emergency.
Smart911 SMS will now allow 911 callers to send an SMS text message when necessary.
"Over 4 billion SMS text messages are transmitted each day in the United States, and in some emergency situations are the only means of communication" Chief Product Officer for Rave Mobile Safety Todd Piett said. "Numerous situations arise everyday whereby 911 call takers would benefit from SMS text functionality, such as addressing the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing, speech impaired callers, or scenarios where voice conversation is unsafe."
Citizens can enter information that they want to make available to 911 call takers through a secure web site at www.Smart911.com.
Information can include children's photos, medical conditions, home addresses of mobile phone callers, disabilities or other rescue-related information
