School cancels 'Back to School Bash' to focus on open houses

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Blytheville Public Schools canceled an event prior to the first day of classes.

The "Back to School Bash" scheduled for Aug. 16 was canceled.

A release from the school was provided to Region 8 News on the subject:

Due to current circumstances in our community over the last several days, we feel it is in the best interest of our stakeholders to redirect our efforts to connect with our families through alternate means.  Rather than holding the Back to School Bash, we will intensify our focus on the Open Houses held on each of the campuses.  The school supply packets, that were donated by Ignite, will be distributed at each Open House.

In their Open House on Tuesday, August 11, Blytheville Elementary School welcomed families, distributed supply packets and connected around student learning.

Open House for Blytheville Primary School will be held Thursday, August 13 at 5:00PM.  Blytheville High School will connect with students and parents through 'First Things First' on Monday, August 17 and Meet the Chicks Monday night at 6:00PM.  Blytheville Middle School will welcome families at their Open House on Tuesday night, August 18, at 5:30PM.

We deeply appreciate our students, parents and community partners and look forward to a successful year of partnership to boost student success in learning.

Blytheville has recently experienced a deadly shooting over the previous weekend and a warrant roundup as part of a federal drug and gun investigation.
