New details in homicide investigation in Poinsett County

HARRISBURG, AR (KAIT) -

The Poinsett County Sheriff's Department released a few more details in a homicide investigation.

Poinsett County Sheriff Larry Mills said the victim was found outside of the residence and did suffer from a gunshot wound.

The shooting happened Saturday August 8.

Mills said the Poinsett County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call at 7:52 p.m.

They were called out west of Harrisburg, where they found the body of 46-year-old Jefferson Scott Crawford.

Mills said this is a homicide investigation, and evidence was sent to the state crime lab.

The sheriff's department is being very discrete with any information they are releasing.

Mills said that is for the sake of the investigation.

Mills explained he is proud of his relationship with the media and he believes in transparency, but some investigations must be kept internal.

"And we certainly don't want to release any detail that would in any way jeopardize the investigation or taint any of the things we are trying to do," Mills said.

He said sometimes they also may not have all of the answers.

"There are certain times when you have an investigation that’s the magnitude of a murder investigation, where it’s early in the investigation, many times we don’t have the answers to the questions that we are being asked," Mills said.

Mills said they are working alongside Arkansas State Police and hope to have a resolution in the near future.
