WEINER, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 school's fight to reopen has been delayed.
Supporters of the Weiner School District planned to present their petition to detach from the Harrisburg School District along with their application to be chosen as a kindergarten through 12 agriculture school to the Arkansas State Board of Education Thursday.
That presentation and vote was postponed because rules and regulations regarding the agriculture school application have yet to be finalized by the career tech organization and the state education board.
The petition to hold a special election in hopes of detaching from Harrisburg School District is the first step to applying to be an agriculture school.
Michelle Cadle is one of the leaders helping with the push to bring the Weiner School District back.
She said until the rules and regulations are finalized they will wait to resubmit their application.
In the meantime, she said they are fully ready to submit their paperwork.
Cadle said they are reaching out to potential students.
"We are currently taking count of students who will be attending and are excited about what we are seeing," Cadle said.
Cadle said they hope to submit the petition and application in the coming months.
