BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

Several defendants at the center of "Operation Blynd Justus" were arraigned in federal court this week.

According to Asst. U.S. Attorney Chris Givens, 44 of 70 defendants appeared in a Little Rock courtroom Thursday.

Fifty people were taken into custody in and around Blytheville Tuesday as part of the operation where more than 570 officers were involved. Five other suspects turned themselves over to the Blytheville Police Department or the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.

In addition, John Franklin turned himself over to authorities in Little Rock. Fourteen suspects remain at large.

Givens says of the 44 arraigned, ten were released on bond.

Others were released on home detention and some on other conditions. Thirty-four remain in custody, but more bond hearings are expected.
