BONO, AR (KAIT) - Some thought it'd never happen, but Bono Lake is full and has even spilled over a few times.
The floodgate was closed in June of 2014 and now, a little over a year later, it's full and holding water.
Craighead County Judge Ed Hill said now that it's full, it's time to enter phase two for the lake.
He hopes to make it an area attraction.
Right now, the county is looking into grants for things like walking and biking trails, playgrounds and more.
County Judge Ed Hill likes what he has seen so far.
"We're excited about what's gonna happen here," Hill said. "We've been in contact with the mayor of Bono, he's excited because he knows it's going to help his town and like I said, Jonesboro and Craighead County is growing so fast, we need more outdoor opportunities and we look forward to making this a pretty place where they can come do that."
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is also getting to work on its contributions to Bono Lake.
Bids for an entrance, parking lot and boat ramp should go out soon.
