Arkansas Capitol honors World War II veterans

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) - Veterans celebrated the seventieth anniversary of the end of World War II at the Arkansas State Capitol on Friday.

During the ceremony, veterans were praised for their bravery and thanked for liberating Europe from the Nazis.

Governor Asa Hutchinson spoke to the group that was hosted by Secretary of State Mark Martin and the Arkansas Department of Veteran Affairs.

"It means a lot to me," World War II veteran Colonel Carl Baswell said. " I see all these veterans out here I am fortunate of course I am 93. Even though I do have a Purple Heart, I came away pretty much unscathed from the war."

The event featured military members from all branches who served during a variety of different time periods.
