Sheriff's office investigates suspected lake drowning

BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A woman's body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab after an apparent drowning.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery states his office was called to Norfork Lake Monday just before 6 p.m. to a suspected drowning.

The victim was identified as Cassandra Lynn Gordon, 35, of Mountain Home, according to the sheriff.

Gordon was recovered from the water near the boat launch area of Cranfield Park. She was found to be unresponsive.

Montgomery said a private citizen was administrating CPR when emergency crews arrived, however she did not respond to efforts to revive her.

Sheriff's investigators, according to Montgomery, were told Gordon had been swimming at the park with friends.

She had reportedly been standing in the water beside her raft about 10 to 15 minutes before she was discovered underwater about 15 feet from the bank in an estimated 5 feet of water. The water temperature at the time of the incident was about 89 degrees Montgomery stated.

The state crime lab in Little Rock will determine the official cause of death.
