BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) - While Monday marked the the first day of school for most kids and their teachers in Region 8, the Batesville Pioneers still had two more days of summer.
Superintendent Gary Anderson said students will be back in classrooms Wednesday, Aug. 19, which is the state's traditional start day.
"A quirk in the calendar this year allowed schools to start earlier on the 17th if they preferred," Anderson said. "Most did. We're going to have a short week, and we may regret it in June after we've had a couple dozen snow days or so."
Superintendent Anderson warns all drivers to be on high alert for students waiting for the bus, especially in the early morning hours when it is still dark.
Welcome back to school, Pioneers!
