CORNING, AR (KAIT) - Corning faces some change in 2015. With Chuck Speer departing for Brookland former defensive coordinator Jeremy Stout takes over the head coaching job.
Stout has been with the team for the last five years and appears to have settled in nicely to his new role. His players say that he's brought extra energy around practice. "He's brought more intensity. We've come together as a team more," senior tight end and defensive end said. "He's made us closer as a team. A lot of intensity this year in practice. Hopefully it will help us down the line," senior running back and safety Jonathan Rangel said.
Corning also has another big loss in 2015. Two-time all-state left tackle Klint Harvey graduated and will walk on at Arkansas. But even without him Corning still has some size on the offensive line and plans to continue running the ball. "We're going to run the ball a lot. We're going to try to throw it a little bit, but we're definitely going to run the ball. We're going to pass the ball so we can run it, not the other way around." Jonathan Rangel who has played wide receiver will be a key in that backfield.
While the Bobcats focus on the run they do return all-league quarterback Austin Scrogin who should provide a good balance.
Corning sneaked into the playoffs in 2014, but in 2015 the Bobcats want to finish above .500 too. Corning starts its season on September 4th at Walnut Ridge.
