JACKSON COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Jacksonport State Park is inviting the community to celebrate its 50 years since the park was created in 1965.
The celebration will be held Saturday, Aug. 29 beginning at 10 a.m., and is free to the public.
Guests can experience the Jacksonport of the 19th century with a Civil War encampment and demonstrations of canons, muskets and rifles.
There will also be guest speakers and tours of the historic Jacksonport Courthouse Museum, which will display exhibits to honor the park's 50 years and will have a special program highlighting the early history of Jacksonport.
Jacksonport State Park opened to the public on June 5, 1965.
That was after the Jackson County Historical Society turned over the deed to the old Jackson County Courthouse to the State of Arkansas and Arkansas State Parks the year before.
