JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A major birthday celebration was held Wednesday night.
Kiwanis International celebrated its 100th anniversary and the Kiwanis Club of Jonesboro is 80 years old.
A party was held at the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce.
President of the Jonesboro Kiwanis Roy Ockert said the organization tries to improve the lives of children in the community.
"Kiwanis, over the years, has sponsored scholarships to ASU," Ockert said. "Annually, we provide a scholarship to a student in three high schools in Craighead County to go to ASU."
Ockert said what makes them unique is their long term involvement.
"We do it in a way that we're involved in it from the beginning to the end," he said. "We're involved in the service projects and it's also a great networking thing for our members to be involved with each other and also their community."
There are 42 members in the Jonesboro Kiwanis chapter and 650,000 worldwide.
