Trumann has big goals for 2015

TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) -

Trumann just missed the playoffs in 2014.  The Wildcats went from one win to three in 2014. But in 2015 the team is talking playoffs. "They were a good group. They were undefeated last year the 10th graders coming up so I think we're really going to be solid. We have a good group coming up and five seniors we've been here three years and we really think we can do it this year. Last year we barely missed the playoffs. This year we want to get past that," said Kevontae Andrews, Trumann senior wide receiver and linebacker. "We're just looking to win six plus conference games and just do big things this year," Alex Santos, Trumann senior fullback and defensive back said.

And the increased confidence has come from a culture change in year three under head coach Scott Waymire. "We're thin in numbers. We've only got 5 seniors and 4 juniors and the rest are sophomores. It gives us 16 sophomores so you know in numbers we're thin, but they've really bought into it This is year three. We're about to turn that corner in the culture change," Waymire said.

Dual threat quarterback Connor Haag comes from Harrisburg to be Trumann's new quarterback.  He will have Trey Moody back from injury in the backfield and Cade Gartman provides power in the running game as well.

But it's the defense that the Wildcats think can be the real key and improvement in 2015. "We try to hang our hat on defense. You know I tell our kids all the time that defense is all character and heart and that's what we want to base everything on our team about," coach Waymire said. The Trumann players definitely agree with their coach. "We feel like the defense is going to be our strong point. We're going to score, but defense is where we want to get picks, fumbles, we want to hit hard. We want to be the team that everybody is nervous to play. They know they're going to hit hard," Andrews said. "Our defensive line is pretty young, most of them. But they're big and strong they've been in the weight room for awhile," Santos said.

Trumann starts its season on September 4th at home against Hoxie.
