LAKE CITY, AR (KAIT) - Riverside School District voted to increase substitute teacher's pay.
They new increase will give substitutes a $7 increase this year.
Superintendent Tommy Knight told Region 8 News there are two types of substitute teachers, certified ones and non-certified ones.
Certified teachers will now get $75 while non-certified will receive $65.
Knight said there are two reasons the district increased the pay.
"Because of the new federal wage guidelines we were going to have to raise some anyway and so we just got it up to be more competitive with the area," Knight said.
Riverside uses Sub-teach to get most of their substitute teachers, which is what most of the Region 8 school districts use according to Knight.
Knight said more substitute teachers are used throughout the year than most people would think.
