The always strong SEC is rich in traditional powerhouses and loaded with teams who could make big runs into the postseason this year and Arkansas is looking to make some noise against league opponents.

The previously released challenging non-conference schedule should prepare the Razorbacks as they open SEC play against five teams who reached the postseason, including a team from the Final Four a year ago.

The schedule begins at South Carolina, Jan. 3.  The Gamecocks spent much of the season ranked No. 1 last year and reached the Final Four for the first time in program history in 2015.  The game with the Gamecocks airs on ESPNU.  Arkansas returns home hosting Texas A&M Jan. 7, followed by a trip to Mississippi State Jan. 10.  The contest versus the Aggies is the first of two games that will air as part of ESPN’s Whip Around coverage with live look ins throughout the event.

Back-to-back home games against Tennessee Jan. 14 and Missouri Jan. 17, round out one of the toughest opening stretches in the league this season.  Both games air on the SEC Network.  Arkansas’ first four SEC opponents are expected to be in the top 25 team rankings on opening day.

Arkansas travels to LSU Jan. 21, and is at Auburn Jan. 24, before hosting Florida Jan. 28, and Mississippi State Jan. 31, as the month comes to a close.

February will challenge Arkansas with just three home games and four road contests beginning with the second meeting against Tennessee in Knoxville Feb. 4.  Arkansas hosts Vanderbilt Feb. 8 on the SEC Network’s Big Monday.  That is followed by a trip to Missouri on Valentine’s Day.

The Razorbacks host Alabama Feb. 18, before traveling to Kentucky Feb. 21 and Georgia Feb. 25.  The regular season ends at home Feb. 28, against Ole Miss on the SEC Network.

·       2015-16 is the 40th year of the program at Arkansas and the 35th season in the NCAA.

·       Arkansas opens SEC play with four consecutive teams who were in the NCAA Tournament.

·       Arkansas faces nine NCAA Tournament and four WNIT teams this year.

·       Non-conference schedule has seven home and six away/neutral games.

·       Arkansas makes its first trip to Puerto Rico in program history this year.

·       Arkansas and Texas A&M are the only teams in the SEC to return two players who ranked in the top 10 in the league in scoring last year.

·       Arkansas is 98-5 in non-conference regular season games in Bud Walton Arena since the 2000-01 season.

·       Arkansas has played each team on the 2015-16 schedule at least once in program history.

·       Arkansas returns four players from last year’s team, tied for the third fewest among the Power 5 conferences this season.

·       The schedule format features a single round robin with 10 games and a home and away with one permanent opponent and two rotating opponents.  Arkansas’ permanent opponent is Missouri.  This is the seventh year of the 16-game schedule and the fourth with 14 teams.
